Journalism: Foreign Correspondence Today

One of the most thrilling aspect that you can go into in the field of journalism is being a foreign correspondent. Foreign correspondents are journalists or news reporters stationed in different parts of the globe in order to provide news to another radio, newspaper or television news program. Sometimes, these reporters come from local news agencies being utilized by international news channels to get their news. It is a way for these broadcasting channels to have a first-hand news source and report locally through their foreign correspondents. However, with the advent and proliferation of the Internet in almost all parts of the world, people can just easily learn of international news from one click of the mouse. Today, it is so easy to learn about various international situations without having to turn on the television to check the news.

The Internet has provided not only a form of entertainment, a way of expressing oneself, but also, a source for international news. Interestingly nowadays, you do not really have to be a professional journalist or news reporter in order to bring about news. Social networking sites today such as Livejournal, Blogger, Facebook, Multiply, Twitter and more have been avenues for anyone with Internet connection to bring about stories and news. Just blogging or “tweeting” about any new event, disaster or situation can already provide significant information to anyone reading it. This is the reason why journalists and professionals have regarded the field of foreign correspondence to be increasingly outdated and obsolete. As anyone can already bring about news nowadays, foreign journalists seem to be not needed anymore. However, many professionals still believe that this line of journalism will continue to be always significant. In this field of journalism, not only do you get to report on news, you get to do it from different parts of the globe as a local reporter. These journalists are able to deliver news as an outsider, but at the same time have a local experience about an event. More importantly, international news agencies have the most resources and finances to actually continue bringing about news all over the world. For instance, the entire world was able to learn about the Japan tsunami which happened in March 2011. The global audience of news channels were able to see through international news channels the gravity of the tsunami.

Some of the most known news channels which have hundreds of foreign correspondence around the world are the British Broadcast Corporation (BBC), Cable News Network (CNN), and Aljazeera. These round-the-clock news channel aims to provide the most recent and important news from different parts of the world.

Foreign correspondence is such a thrilling job as it is able to take you to far-off places, introduce you to different cultures and basically show you an entire world very different from your own. Despite the belief that this work has been growing to be archaic because of the Internet, it has not completely died down.
